About to take delivery of a 2005 Super V8!

Postby Davidqhog » Thu May 10, 2018 5:02 pm

After years of 24 years of Jaguar ownership - XJ40 Gold, Jaguar XJS 5.3 HE, XJS 6.0, XJ8 Sovereign (still owned) & Daimler Super V8 (still owned - I've bitten the bullet and acquired a 2005 Super V8. It's high mileage but having had it checked over by Paul Titheradge of Wiltshire Jaguar at https://mikeallenservices.com/, it's in excellent condition.

He's carried out a full service, gearbox refresh and fixed a couple of minor faults. Picking it up tomorrow evening so expecting to be in Jaguar heaven on Saturday!

Thanks to J44EAG and others who pointed me in this direction originally!

I've attached some pics. Bright sunshine today so a bit of glare.

The car was apparently owned from new by a director of Jaguar before being sold on. I'll research who - unless anyone out there knows. It's beautiful to drive, very responsive, quiet and very comfortable. Inevitably there are a few things not working as they should - front/rear parking sensors for starters which on such a huge car are a bit necessary - and there is some corrosion on the leading edge of the bonnet, top lip of the boot above the chrome escutcheon and one of the front pillars. Not too bad and will try and get them sorted. The alloys have seen better days but will get them done too.

Returning about 28 mpg when I'm not pressing the loud pedal too hard. Still trying to work out what all the gizzmos do inside! Having it Terraclean'd hopefully later this week or early next.

Every time I buy a new Jag, it's better than the last model. This one is sensational!

The X350/8 is the best all round car in the World for every day driving! Nothing else comes close for value, handling or fuel economy. I love my XJR to bits and shudder at the thought of not having it to hand. I`d be a very sad bunny without it!

To quote Clarkeson when the 350 XJR first appeared. "No car on this Earth does everything quite so well as an XJR"!

Mike,

It was your comment a year or so ago when I was thinking about an S-Type that made me look further and consider an X350 so many thanks!

It is the best car I have ever driven with loads of power, comfort and near silence. I shall be trying to follow some of the improvements you and others have recommended in due course. I'll update as I go. TerraClean on Thursday is the first step followed by a new K&N filter and probably another oil change after a few days of running to get rid of the crud the TC dislodges.

I noticed last night after cleaning the slightly grubby MAF that there are no spark plug covers on either side. I guess someone took them off and forgot to refit them - they look like a b*gger to refit but I don't think the coils should be so exposed. Have to have a word with Paul Titheradge and get some new ones.
