Hi everyone,
my name is Jon and after owning a 3L Auto SE for a year thought I would join the JEC (birthday treat from the wife).
I had been hanging my nose over a Jag for a few years and after three friends, in quick succession, bought X-Types I finally took the plunge. I decided on the S-Type not to be different but because of the retro style and great deal from a well known car dealer.
The car had been a p/x and the first time I saw it hadn't been touched by the dealer (just how I like to see a car first time), in fact they wouldn't let me test drive it until they had serviced it and checked it out. The next time I saw it they had put new discs, pads and tyres all round, serviced and valeted it. The wife was with me for the test drive and I think she could tell by the look on my face that if we could we would be going home in it that day.
A week later, insurance and road tax sorted, we were the proud owners of a Jag or as my wife calls it your "Arfur Daley" motor.
Getting to grips with the car has been relatively easy apart from the first few weeks when we had fun with the memory seats (me especially). I'm 6'4" and my wife is 5'4" so we each have our own key to the car, not a problem until I'm in a hurry and pick her key up by mistake. After a couple of close encounters with the steering wheel I am now an expert at pressing the panic button also known as memory 2 on the door arm rest.
At first my 11 year old son thought the car wasn't working quite right after I told him the "S" button at the side of the gear change meant slow, he now knows that it's Dads special button as Mum doesn't use it. He was also a bit unsure about it being an auto when I used the "J" gate but he's getting the idea now!
So far the car has been pretty trouble free apart from a slight leak from the header tank which I replaced with a new tank off e-bay, took about 20 minutes.
Last month I took the car to a friends who has his own state of the art MOT station and it passed without a problem (he may be a friend but he doesn't pull his punches and nothing gets by unless it's ok which is what I want). He did say the car was in very good condition.
I've posted some pictures on the register, I'm the last one on from Notts., I tried to attach some here but not sure if it worked.
Hopefully I can pick some useful tips up on the forums, happy motoring.
