Windscreen Clearing

Postby eugos » Tue Aug 22, 2023 11:00 am

I have an 2002 STR with which I am delighted, I do however have a problem with the windscreen clearing in the autumn/winter having only acquired the vehicle in March 2022 it was an issue last year.
The passenger side clears in a straight line down the screen from the roofline to the dashboard leaving the drivers side misted up.
The car has done 56k now and is in v good condition, I am in the process of just bringing it back up to spec.
Having previously owned an X308 sport, XK8 and x type 3.0 sport, and never having experienced this issue I am at a loss

I suspect the windscreen is at fault, but would appreciate any advice/guidance.

There are two ways of clearing mist from the screen, via the heater's air flows or, if the factory options box was ticked appropriately, by the use of heated elements embedded in the windscreen. The latter are usually split into two circuits, one either side of the windscreen. Corrosion of the electrical connectors or broken embedded wires can be problems, and typically, can only be resolved by replacing the heated windscreen. Due to their heavy power consumption, electrically heated windscreens are operated via a timer switch and switch off automatically after about 10 minutes.
If the misting problem is permanent (it lasts beyond the time any electrically heated windscreen would operate), the problem is likely to be failure of the servo motor, or its linkage, operating the flap which directs heated air from the heater to that side of the windscreen. A good Jaguar specialist should be able to solve the problem using new or second hand parts. Mike.
