new s type enthusiast

Postby stypemike2245 » Thu Nov 29, 2018 7:38 pm

hi everyone. I'm that new to s type ownership I haven't got one yet!. to be honest I've got a hell of headache trying to buy one. my concern is mileage, I'm looking to get a 3.0l se post facelift. I'm aware of good service history and I've checked MOT history on some cars. most people seem to say the engines are pretty good on the whole but suspension and steering components do flag up regularly. so any advice will be appreciated. regards stypemike2245.

Hi Mike and welcome to the S Type Forum section.

Apart from all the technical bits to watch out for, which you seem to be aware of, my advice would be to study the prices and mileages of the year/colours/spec you are after, make a database if need be, then set your criteria to the level you want, don't compromise on that level, view and drive as many as you can and cast your net wide. In doing this you will soon be able to spot the red herrings and imposters which there are many of.

You could also submit a saved search on both Autotrader and Pistonheads, these selling sites will then send you e-mails whenever new Trade and Private Cars are added.

There are loads of Cars out there, if you take your time the right one will find you and you'll know when it does.

Mike,

Welcome and good luck with your search.

From personal experience I would suggest checking the underneath for rust, especially the sills. See my forum post elsewhere for a bad example. Nonetheless, I like the car so much I am trying to save it.
