I have tried setting up the carbs but get very rough running at medium/high revs and the engine reaches about 4000rpm and no more. Any ideas?

Thunderbox1000 as in my magazine articles when I was putting Reggie together I was
assisted by a good friend - JEC member to tune my carbs. As an experienced engine builder
Anthony Taylor tuned them by ear which fascinated me.
I would suggest if you can't set your carbs right using the jaguar service manual method
Pay someone to do it. Because if the carbs aren't set right on an XK engine your ride will never
be smooth...

Hello Thunderbox,
you have also posted on the Mk 2 section.
It would help if you would explain exactly what engine it is and what modifications have been carried out. It's also possible that you have the incorrect distributor?
