Rear wing repair sections - David Manners parts

Postby tmulchro » Thu Apr 20, 2017 1:26 pm

Hi All,

Has anyone fitted the repair sections listed here on the David Manners website
http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/part ... =MRS0035LH

I understand that the repair section is actually for a 420, rather than a 420G or Mk10

Has any one seen or fitted one of these repair panels to a 420G ?
How well do they fit ?
and how much modification is required to get them to fit ?

Regards
Tony

Tony,
I do believe this needs a little more investigation.

The big and beautiful Mk10 and 420G is one model whereas the early 1960's S type and 420 was a totally different model, a much smaller car.
The 420 was basically an S type with different front wings and a 4.2 litre engine and a much much bigger radiator.

I really cannot remember the detail without looking at some pictures to remind me or even the two models side by side to compare but I have a feeling they are different and the rear wing sections are not inter changeable.

The David Manners advert does specify 420 / S type with no reference to Mk10 or 420G

I hope that helps a little but do confirm to us the outcome

Hi Oldtimer,

I spoke to David Manners ad they told me that the rear panel section and rear 2/3's of the wheel arch of the 420 rear wing repair section match. They were also very nice and offered to send me on a panel to compare with the existing one - and that I could return it if I am not happy with.

I did look into these panels some time ago - D.Manners and others offered this 420 rear wing repair section for Mk10's and 420Gs.
I knew they weren't an exact match, but didn't (and still don't) know just how different they are.

Hopefully someone in this forum has experience of fitting these panels to a 420G and can provide some assistance.
If not (and in any case) I'll report back on my findings

There's a 4 week lead time on the panels though...

Best
Tony

Tony,
Most interesting what you have to say. On the basis of what you have been told there must be someone out there who has done this job. It would be good to hear from somebody that has actually been involved in this particular job.

Good luck with the job and let us know of developments

Hi - David Manners agreed to send me the repair sections so that I could compare them with with a spare rear wing that I have - They do not match up very well and would need significant re-working to get them to do so

I have photos on my PC but cannot seem to post them here
