Borg Warner Automatic Transmission Oil Outlet Pipe Oil Return Pipe Leak

Postby tony.patch420574 » Tue Jun 27, 2023 12:59 pm

Hi there, good afternoon.

I have had my '69 420G now for twenty years this September.

I have noticed that a leak from either the oil outlet or oil return pipe from the gearbox to the cooler is leaking. I have looked at the likes of David Manners, Robey's, SNG Barrett, SC Parts etc to no avail and am now in a quandary as to what to do with regards to replacements as there is nothing listed at all, only discontinuation notices to say that the following parts are no longer available so please can anyone offer a solution?

The Part Numbers and description are as follows:-

C23429:- Oil Outlet Pipe from front connection on transmission unit to flexible hose.

C23430:- Oil Return Pipe from Flexible hose to rear connection on transmission unit.

Also have the same issue locating the battery retaining frame too....

C19384:- Battery Retaining Frame.

C19386:- Fixing Rod Front.

C19385:- Fixing Rod Rear.

Part Numbers and Descriptions copied from my 4.2 Mk10 Parts Manual.

Also need to know what the correct oil pressure gauge sender unit would be as well as to where on the engine it is located and if possible to fit a replacement at home??

Please would it be possible for someone to come back to me with solutions to these queries, all assistance and advice greatly received.

Thanks in anticipation.

Best regards,

Tony

Not much help for you on the gearbox questions but the oil pressure sender (for the gauge) is mounted on top of the oil filter housing. Yes, you can change them at home but it's a struggle. Replacements are notoriously unreliable but a straight swop. I converted my 1966 S Type to a direct capillary gauge which I think is superior. Available for M&C Wilkinson amongst others.
