XJ S1 Rear Suspension

If my rear suspension camber needs changing after assembly, how is this done

I understand it is with spacers but which ones as there are a few

the main reason I ask is that some fixing bolts are safety wired after installation and I wondered if these will need redoing

Hi Richard,

Whichever way you look at it, resetting the rear camber is a pain in the bum! Changes are made by adding or removing the shims between the driveshafts and the brake discs. Making a trial and error activity so difficult is the reason that so many XJs run around incorrectly set up! in turn, that's a real shame because a properly sorted car is a joy to drive. Mike.

I found changing the rear camber on my XJS (very similar) fairly easy.

You need to have the geometry measured by an expert, and then if necessary buy more shims, as per the manual, which says how much the angle changes for one shim. If it needs redoing, you didn't find an expert to measure.

Remove wheel, lower swivel grease nipple (it gets in the way), move the UJ cover out of the way, mark UJ and disk for reassembly (you don't remove the disk), undo the nuts and UJ, remove and clean up the old shims, and add/remove as necessary, and put everything back.
