XJ12 S1 Power Steering Fluid Cooler

Postby richardpierce » Sat Apr 13, 2013 5:24 pm

Evening All,

Can anybody clarify if all XJ12 S1's left the factory with a power steering fluid cooler (It sits on the front axle in front of the LH engine mounting).

My car doesn't but I have just looked at a S1 DD6 VDP which did have.

I'm wondering if mine has been taken off or whether it never had one.

Any help always appreciated.

Regards

Richard

Jaguar's parts book shows series 1 and early series 2 cars without a power steering cooler. Perhaps the series 1 car you saw had had a front subframe swap or similar mods since it hardly seems worthwhile adding a steering cooler for UK motoring. Mike.

I agree with Mike, my '73 XJ12 chassis no 2R1088BW does not have a PAS cooler.
The Parts Catalogue for the Series 3 lists a cooler.
Mike you say Series 1 and early S 2 do not list a cooler, I can't find any information as to whether later series 2's ever had a cooler either.

Interestingly, I've just dug out a maroon coloured Repair Operation Manual Jaguar Daimler XJ12. Published by British Leyland (UK) Limited. This Manual includes 2 door models so clearly later in the life of the Series 2. This manual shows pictures of an PAS oil cooler - remove and fit.

So there we have it then, no PAS cooler until about the time of the introduction of the two door Coupe, what ever year that was.

Hope that helps

Evening everybody,
Just to add to this topic, my series 2 XJ12 has a cooler and is an early fuel injected model, manufactured in Jan 76. Car no 2R 3982. On checking the parts book it seems the coolers started on the introduction of fuel injection at car no 2R 3923.
Hope this helps,
Regards
Simon.
