S1 fuel tank senders

On testing the crusty LH tank sender I conclude it is u/s as it sometimes gives a resistance reading but nothing consistent and then only when the arm comes into contact with either of the end stops. The original elbowed sender C27739 has been suuperseded by a simpler version with a long arm and there is a choice of OEM at £54 and aftermarket at £35. It is still sold under that part number but resembles the later S2 version C45526. Does anyone have any feedback on this alternative part?

Incidentally both types are shown with part C31131 that seems to fit on the outer end of the float, any idea what this does as it is missing from the sender I removed.

Just a suggestion but I recall that the position of the senders changed (possibly when submerged pumps were fitted) so, before purchase, you may need to ensure that the type of senders available will work with your particular tanks. Mike.
