The electrician identified the SU pump on above car (the contactor type) as not working
So I've gone and bought the single external electronic equivalent repacement from Manners -- AZX1308EN#
I didn't take out the old pump, and the car's now in the paint shop as this, and the wiper motor, were the only two outstanding items left not working after a new loom was installed.
So now don't know where the pump actually goes (duh!) Have had a search for location diagram but all I'm coming up with is the two pump system that was needed on exports to US. With a switch for selection of whatever tank. It's not the earlier fuel pump inside to tank system. I understand only one fuel pump was needed on UK-other export countries -- just a changeover flow solenoid was used.
Have I got this understanding right?
Anyone know where I can get the location diagram? The sites I've been to all either have diagrams for the internal or twin pumps' arrangement (US helpful sites)

Hello Richard,
have you tried taking the boot trim side panels off. That's where Jaguar fittd the pump on other cars of that era or earlier?

The UK spec series 1 6 cylinder cars had two pumps - one for each tank - the pumps are in the spare wheel well. I'm a bit confused as to why you think there should only be one?

Re: fuel pump location XJ6 ser 1 1972 chassis
Thanks for the replies. So UK spec had two pumps with an electrical changeover
I've only got the one pump -- the other tank had been blocked off by previous keeper.
And there's no fuel pump there -- looks as if that tank's rusted through -- but the NS tank
has had a new level sender fitted and, according to docs, been plasticised and pressure tested too.
So the pump's location is behind the boot trim side panel?
The spare wheel well's had its floor changed and with the spare there doesn't seem to be any space.
So guess the pump will live in the side panel.
The other reason for getting a diagram is to make sure all the tank's breathers are correctly connected and clear
I'll have a search again for a diagram

Hi Steve... Thanks for your post -- seems the fuel filter's disappeared with the other fuel pump and the wiring too
With the crud that's in filling station's tanks today wouldn't want to run without a filter. Does a '72 build need
lead additive BTW?
From the pix you post hope it'll lead to someone (they're gonna connect the new electronic replacement of a contactor type of pump at the spray shop -- they're not XJ6 experts) understanding where the pump's supposed to be connected. And what breather tubes there are.
SC Parts catalogue is usually very good with their parts diagrams, but although there's diagrams of pumps (injection, immersable, and standard) are given, there's no diagram showing the pump in situ with all its connections AFAICT.
Barrats say they don't have a book, and Manners aren't answering their 'phone

Re: fuel pump location XJ6 ser 1 1972 chassis
Hi Richard.....service manuals you can get on ebay for a few pounds....my car was a 1971 and the photo i posted was where my filter and pumps were....Jaguar did move the filter to the engine compartment under the carbs but not sure when....my S1 service manuals shows drawings of both...re fuel all XK engins have aluminium heads...so already have hardend valve seats so unleaded is fine.....but use the highest octane you can get.....re your fuel pump is it an SU pump but electronic version..if so its ok....if its an aftermarket part you may have problems...su carbs dont like to much fuel pressure and some aftermarket pumps run a bit to high pressure...i still have a wiper motor if you ever need one ..... Yes, it's got SU stamped on Manners' catalogue pic
Just as soon as someone's been to check it is the wiper motor that's gone (the direction contactor on the top often goes open circuit I'm told) then I'll get back to you.
This is the wilds of Hampshire after all... so what with Easter coming up... holidays always get in the way of important stuff

Steve and anyone else needing this info at a later date...
Noone's been in to connect my new pump up since last I posted despite having the agreement of yet another

) that they would
Meantime have found the Haynes for XJ6 series 1.
These are useful component location diagrams for fuel system for an XJ6 series 1.
