Windscreen wiper spindles' grommet

Postby RichardSEL » Wed Sep 05, 2018 7:56 am

On the XJ6 series 1 was there ever a grommet between the windscreen wiper motor spindle and it's surrounding scuttle? There wasn't anything on mine when I got it but there does look to be one grommet of sorts in one of the pix I took at delivery:

Try viewing the JLR Classic parts book (www.jaguarclassicparts.com/catalogue/da ... ical/#p=26) where you can see the grommet/seal. Mike.

Dunno 'bout the Series 1, but by Series III it had a rubber thingy. I think it was purely cosmetic; at least, I had only one, but neither wiper showed problems.

Thanks for the replies...
Yes, series 1 chassis '72

I couldn't see for looking. It's on the parts' diagram for the motor and drive spindles as C5574 available on eBait as "Wiper Spindle Grommet" at £2.48ea +£1.50 p&p from ANG 02476 565 708

And while I'm down here, the "Wiper Park Switch" (described as "discontinued" from the big suppliers)
is 12453 @ £10.50 ea

C5574 is a wiper rack TUBE grommet - it seals the point where the actuating mechanism passes through the engine bulkhead. The series 1 wiper spindle seal assembly is C28005 (within the dashed box in the parts diagram). I doubt this will fit the wiper spindle/scuttle joint of the Sedanca - its scuttle is a different profile to a series 1 car.

Thanks Robbie  I've already ordered them now. Oh well, they'll also double as cable grommets and weren't expensive. I've got a spare set of aerial grommets too that I've left with the paint shop. Hopefully one of them will fit suitably cut down.

Meanwhile, with your helpful info, info I'll have a look at C28005.
<later> That number comes up on Martin Robey's site as for a "bolt". Another site gives it for the whole drive spindle holder

AFAIK C28005 is NLA but the listed part may not fit anyway. It may be possible to fabricate something with rubber washers, a short length of splay cut pipe as a plinth and a suitable lock nut. The joys of owning rare cars!

Good luck.
