paint shop recommendation

Postby xjray » Sun Oct 11, 2020 1:15 am

Hi, I’m looking for recommendations for a good paint shop to do some touch up work on my XJ6.

There are a number of marks and blemishes under the clear coat (which I assume was re-done at some point), two or three small rust spots and a couple of minor paint chips down to the metal. Nothing too serious or particularly noticeable, certainly not re-spray territory, but I'd like to get them done.

Also the coachlines need replacing. Some pieces seem to have been replaced by a previous owner but the colours don’t match and one length in particular has become somewhat crispy and curly. Jaguar Classic only has the wing section but I found a seller on eBay who reproduces the whole set.

I’m based in south west London/north Surrey but don’t mind travelling a reasonable distance.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

Thanks

I can recommend Surrey Car Craft in Fairoaks airport, Chobham. Alternatively have you considered using a mobile service if the paint work is localised....

Thanks for that recommendation. I’ve seen their name mentioned elsewhere and will give them a call.

I don’t think I would trust a mobile service on a classic car. The original paint colour will need to be matched and some of the clear coat will need to be taken back and re-done as it has been sprayed over the existing coachlines in a couple of places. I think the job needs a proper paint shop and its facilities.

Thanks again.

Yr welcome and fully understood on the mobile service. I am however using Paint FX to repaint my engine bay on my XJ in situ at my work, fantastic work but yes matching will be an issue. I have had awful trouble getting colour matched, so much so that I took the bonnet to a well known Detail supplier in Chessington and they still could not get it 100% matched.... Problem is my car was a special colour (non Jaguar) when restored 15 odd years ago.
