Hello folks, I wonder if anyone could recommend a product which is suitable for older paint ( solid ).The paint is 40plus years old and is good for it`s age and I wash in in meguiars ultimate wash and wax .I wash a section at a time and do not use a hose as it doesn`t get dirty only dusty ( summer use only) and it has good results. I would like to give it a polish and wax . I have used meguiars carnuba wax on a small area a while back but it seemed to drag the paint also Auto Glym polish resulted in the same happening. I wonder if anyone has had good results using a product which has enhanced the paint of their classic, any advice appreciated regards Paul

I would consider using an orbital polishing machine in order to get the shine you need... In my experience waxing only really enhances what's underneath so a good prep and polish makes the best base for wax to A) protect B) enhance the finish.
You would be surprised what's embedded in the paintwork that will give you the issues you are seeing and you don't want to polish or wax that in.
After you wash the car (and before you dry it) try using a Fall Out Spray (any from Halfords work) and then a clay bar to remove all the ingrained dirt that does not wash out, then this is the stage that you should be ready to polish and then wax the car.
On old paint work I would recommend a light polish/cut with the RA polishing machine which should really give you the shine you need and then I would recommend McGuire's Gold Wax, hand applied and removed panel by panel, obviously not in direct sunlight.
I bought a Liquid Elements RA polishing machine (£200 from ebay) it came with three different grades of polish and the equivalent foam pad (heavy to fine cut). I've polished everything from the fridge, milky headlamps to a matt red triumph spitfire all to great results. It takes time but its well worth the effort to get that long lasting shine. Take a look on YouTube as their are many Car detailers that show you how its done. LOL didn't see that the original post was from 2011.....
