My compressor belt snapped today. The air con doesn't work (it needs converting). Does the belt do anything other than run the compressor? If not i won't bother replacing it.

The one to the compressor just drives that, but you might ask the qustion 'why did it snap?'
With non-functioning air con, the compressor clutch is (or should be) disengaged, effectviely making the compressor pulley just an idler. If that belt snapped, under relatively benign conditions, what state are the other belts (which are rather more important) in?
Might be worth changing them if they are of similar age?
