Disk runout issue

Hi Guys

I am looking for some advice on the rear brakes. I have fitted new disks but the runout reading on the DTI is way too high but I don’t think it is the disks I think it is something to do with the output shaft, either the bearing or the end float.

I have replaced the outer bearing and oil seal (but not the inner bearing as I don’t want to disturb all the diff preloads). I can see 2 things that may create some sideways movement in the output shaft, I could either tighten the bearing nut on the output shaft or remove the shim sitting between the output shaft housing and the diff housing. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Alternatively I could just rebuild it as it is so that I can at least get the rear axle back in the car and be able to get her off the lift.

Hello Steve,

assuming the face that the disc mounts on is clean, then clock that surface to see if it is running true. It should run virtually zero at that small diameter.
