Correct fluid for auto 'box and PAS?

Hi,

I'll need to top-up both the automatic transmission and PAS fluid on my Series 2 XJ6. The handbook recommends Mobil ATF210, Castrol TQF, etc. What would be a suitable modern equivalent?

Advice appreciated. Thanks.

Two minutes Googling throws up suppliers of both the Mobil and Castrol oils you mentioned. The old stuff is generally known as "type 33F". I've been very satisfied with Morris's lubricants in the past, Their equivalent is Liquimatic 33G. You should pay around £33 for 5 litres.

Thanks Paul - much appreciated. Following your suggestion, a quick google search turned up ATF to Ford specifications M2C33F and M2C33G (although I have been unable to establish what the difference between 'Type F' and 'Type G' actually is?). However, both specs appear compatible with Borg Warner transmissions pre-1981. A subsequent search on amazon revealed several UK based oil blenders selling 5 ltrs of their own brand ATF to this spec for under thirty quid. The best deal I could find being Smith & Allan at £22.74 including UK delivery.

Why am I surprised there aren’t more recent posts on this subject as technology has moved on. I have a 420G engine with automatic transmission and current research (internet) suggests (Circa2023) ATF Dexron 3 or DX111 with a top-up of Lucus Transmission Fix.
Any contrary advice welcome.

Opie Oils sell Castrol TQF

On that page it gives the specs. You may be able to locate others that are suitable and perhaps more recent blends.

Very kind of you. I use Castrol Classic motor oil so this may be where I need to go, thanks.
