Daimler Double Six - Choice made.

Hi all,

It is the first one I saw with the 40 psi oil pressure. Coachwork is metallic red, not sure of exact name but ruby red would be close, with doeskin leather. The other one had dents underneath plus micro blistering on the paintwork (roof and door) amongst other things. Still waiting for the detailed report, but the engineer said the first one was the better of the two.
I picked it up today, and it was a lovely 80 mile trip back home. Just wafted along.
I stopped/started across the Dartford crossing for about 20 minutes and the temperature never budged from the 80 mark.
The oil pressure registered a smidge over 40 psi, but never went below 30 when idling so not too concerned. Will try a new sender unit and fresh oil.
I filled the left tank to the 3/4 mark and when I arrived home it was on halfway. I don't take much notice of the computer but I reckon 20 mpg.
Stayed at 60 mostly as at over that there is a mild wheel shimmy. Flatspots on the tyres perhaps?
There are a host of things to be looked at, though none of them serious.
I've got an independent Jaguar specialist recommended to me so it will be booked in late January as I will be away for a few weeks in February. There is a list of 20 items to do which should keep him busy, and include putting new pepperpot alloys on. For me nothing suits the series 3 better.
Can anybody tell me a rough price to waxoyle the car please?

First job is an engine bay clean! I've already ordered some Gliptone cleaner and cream for the interior. Apart from the drivers seat, the rest look new, but it will have gathered dirt over the years.

I'll update periodically, (even the bad bits - if they surface)

Cheers for now,

Martin.

Hi Martin,
Congrats on collecting the Double Six, it sounds like a good one.
I'ts a good colour combination and as you say, pepperpots definitely suit a series three.
I don't know how much it would cost for waxoyling, but more important is to get it where it's needed most.
Good luck with everything and perhaps I'll spot you with the car at club events next year.
Happy New Year All
Simon.

Hi Simon,

Cheers for that.
I contacted Alan Proctor at JEC with regard to waxoyling the car and he told me he is retiring in April. He is handing over his company to one of his employees, which I will contact this coming year, probably in the warmer months. He reckons it can take between 2 days to a week to do it properly.
He said to ignore the ones who do it in a day. I'll get a quote and take it from there.
I pick up 5 'Pepperpots' on Monday which I got on e-bay. They look spot on. Guy reckons they are either fairly new, or recently refurbished. he strips cars for a living. £300. Seems good to me as they are expensive brand new.
Due to work restraints ( I work weekends) I will probably only manage the main annual meeting this coming year when I take my annual leave, and so look forward to meeting you and other enthusiasts there.

Kind regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Sound slike a great car :-)
I hope to see it at a few shows this year?
We look after many V12 XJC's, our own car is a 6.2ltr manual car. It will give you endless enjoyment I am sure.
We allow 3 days for a thorough wax. All trims need to come off for a proper job - splash panels etc. Many injection holes need drilling - and kept out of site!

Kind regards,
Keith

Hi Keith,

Many thanks for the offer, but the car is booked in with David Marks for basically a re-commissioning. As I will be away for several weeks it made sense to have the waxoiling carried out at the same time.

I am definitely booking the w/e 23rd and 24th June for the big show.

The car is Regency Red and Doe skin interior. I have a huge book on Jaguar written by Heinrich Stertkamp I think is his name. He is the President of the Jaguar Club in Germany. I have been struggling to get a paint stick to put in the toolbox as I would like it complete. All the paint codes are in the book.
I had to look my car's paint code up, as a contact could not find a match to the original Jaguar paint code stick. (It's different to the one in the book).
Just waiting to hear from him.

I think they are pretty special cars, and I am keeping this one! It's always an event taking it out.

Regards,

Martin.
