XJ6 2.8LTR

Hi Guys, I have a question for any XK engine specialists, I've recently stripped my spare 2.8 LTR XJ6 engine and on measuring the bores and pistons I have a skirt clearance of 0.9mm-0.1mm clearance. Now looking in the Haynes manual it gives a clearance of .018-.032mm. this motor was reported to have been rebuilt and only covered less 30K it has a reground crank and the bores are nicely honed with very minor wear and no lipping at the top on +30" oversized with Hepolite pistons. So my thinking is that It's either been bored wrong to big or for some reason, it requires a larger clearance than the book mentions. Please help

Piston skirt clearances depend upon the piston's construction and material used (in this instance, grade of aluminium) and therefore they differ between supplier brands. Try asking a Hepolite supplier for that company's recommendations to be confident of the answer. Mike.

This makes good sense thank you!!
I saw some Mahle pistons for sale which said 0.1mm skirt clearance but these are Hepolite, so I'll try and check with a supplier of these.
