Main engine pulley
Moderator:LJR
I am about to swap the engine pulley from my old engine to the new one.... is it a simple off and refit or is it balanced and do I need to take in to account TDC?

Re: Main engine pulley
If you were going for perfection, you would have the pulley, the crank and the drive plate/flywheel etc balanced as a unit. In practice, swapping them is easy enough. They are keyed in position so there are no concerns about losing the timing marks. Mike.

Thank you Mike, appreciate the feed back
Re: Main engine pulley
Finally getting round to this... Had awful trouble with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft... now resolved and have a good condition damper and new locking cone. 3 quick questions if I may:-
What is the torque setting for the damper bolt??
What is the torque settings for the pulley securing bolts..? Cant find it in the service manual.....
What is the purpose of the seal on the back of the damper??

Re: Main engine pulley
Torque settings were never released for lots of items on the early V12s. However, they were for the 6 litre version which is where the following can be found.
The torque setting for the damper bolt is 180 - 220 Nm. The figure for the pulley bolts is 14 - 18 Nm.
It's a long time since I renewed a front crank seal and worked in that area. Hence, my memory may be deceiving me but is it not simply a protrusion of the rubber between the inner and outer sections of the damper? Mike.

Thank YOU Mike.
Fitting this now.
Just wondered what that seal was, wondered whether it was for sealing the 2 parts or to provide some anti vibration effect.
