My 4.2 series 2 is struggling from cold. It has a manual choke and starts ok ish, but then cuts out fairly randomly. It runs rich with the choke out but then won't keep running with the choke pushed in. After it cuts out it can be a pain to restart, almost like it's flooded. When it gets warm its a smooth powerful motor and a joy, as they all are.
Is this a choke issue, a me being an inexperienced Jag owner issue, a carb issue, or something sinister? It's worth saying the car has only done about 500 miles n the last 12 months and is new to my ownership.
Cheers,
Jon

Re: Cold running issue
Is this manual choke a conversion of the AED (retains the bottom half of the original) or has someone retrofitted choked SUs?
I ask because the AED conversions are a pig to get right. The enrichment adjustment required modification of the supplied components and even when done getting a smooth idle was largely a matter of luck.

Re: Cold running issue
Not sure, but what I have tried today I simply to push the choke in earlier which really helped. Think the engine might have been flooding
Re: Cold running issue
If it's the aftermarket add-on (first picture here: http://www.almclwebpages.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/5.html
then instructions were to push the choke about 2/3rds of the way in as soon as the engine was running. I nevr got mine to run smooth and would have happily fitted another AED if one had been available.

Thanks. Not noticed that between the carbs. Car is in garage having other surgery but will have a look when it comes back.

Re: Cold running issue
That is the AED fitted. I am still having issues with it. Hates starting if it hasn't run for a few days. Wouldn't start at all the other day but think I might have flooded it. I reckon it's running too rich, but might no e bl to do much about it
