Automatic locking
I have a 2003 x350 4.2 with a problem with the automatic locking when going from park to drive or reverse in that the doors lock as they should but then if you stop and try to open the door it remains locked until you press the central locking button on the dash.If you just start the engine in park the doors open fine and remote locking works with fob.I note in the handbook it states you can have auto lock removed, any other suggestions please.Only bought the car yesterday and didn’t find out until I arrived home to get out of the car, apart from that I love it great car!
Re: Automatic locking
Sounds like a fault. Opening a door with the pull handle should work even when auto locking has taken place, but doors will re-lock if you move the gearshift lever to drive off again after opening one.

Re: Automatic locking
It sounds like the door handle mechanism is faulty. The door should unlock as you pull the handle. I'd imagine that a fault like that would attract the attention of an MOT tester?
The door handle isn't hard to change. Take the door card off and it's pretty obvious how it goes.
It's been a while since I had an X350 but I recall that the drive away locking can be enabled/disabled from the touch screen if you have one.

Re: Automatic locking
It's an instant MOT fail, according to the man who tested my XJS with a dicky passenger door lock a few years back. Pettifogging bureacrats; new passengers are ten a penny... The door should unlock as you pull the handle. I'd imagine that a fault like that would attract the attention of an MOT tester?

Re: Automatic locking
Automatic locking now removed, all the methods on YouTube do not work, nor via the touch screen so took it to my local jaguar specialist who removed it for free when I collected my XF in for new cambelt. It was primarily fitted to prevent car jacking as I live in the country and hardly ever go into a town I think it’s worth the risk, you can still lock all the doors from the inside if your paranoid!
