Satnav

Postby AndyBebs » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:53 pm

When I try and input an address or postcode or use an existing destination I am getting an error message appearing on my satnav as follows 'Voice guidance is not available in this area'. The navigation does not then work but the map does move along and show the correct location whilst driving. I have tried resetting to default setting and removing cleaning and replacing the disc to no avail. I have read through the instruction book but it does not mention this error. Has anyone experienced a similar problem or able to advise how to overcome this problem.

Regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

having had similar problems with my S Type sat nav (not sure if its the same system?) with various error messages, would definitely say it is the disc, ended up changing mine and that cured the problem. What year is the disc from? Have a look on ebay, might be able to get a newer disc there.

The car is 2005 and I believe the disc is 2003. however the disc still shows the map whilst moving along its just that the guidance doesn't as though its turned of somewhere?

Hmm, not sure then, you still getting that error message? May sound too obvious, but you haven't inadvertently set voice to off on the settings? Still think might be the disc as the maps and voice are read separately on the disc. I have the disc from my old S Type, part number: 1X43 10E898 AH (DENSO part number 464210-5480), with maps up to 2004, happy to send you this if you like as car now gone...

Andy,

I have tried all combinations of voice on or off, but the guidance worked before with the voice guidance turned off which is how I tend to use it for the majority of a journey and just turn it back on to find the final destination if it is new to me. I would however appreciate trying your disc if that can be arranged. Thanks

Andy,

Problem now solved, it wasn't the disk because with that in the satnav box the centre console screen would not light up at all but it did prompt me to have another go at it to no avail, however whilst I was filling up with petrol last night a college of mine had a go and noticed that when the settings are reset to factory settings it changes zone to Belgium! would you believe. He changed it back to the UK and the guidance all appears to work as it should. Thank you for the loan of your disk.

I read somewhere that Belgium is indeed the default location. EU dictat? or perhaps it works best where the mountains are less than 100m tall ;-)
