Aluminium door trim x358

I am looking for a replacement aluminium effect door capping - o/s front door - for my X358 Sport Premium. The drivers side trim seems to be prone to dents from the seat belt buckle, on almost all the examples I have seen.

Jaguar used to only supply a complete set of the trims which was a) ridiculously expensive and b) it seems, now, no longer available anyway. I have therefore been looking at a used replacement but to no avail, as all the examples (of the few I have managed to find on line) have the same fault.

So on looking at the trim I wondered if the o/s front and o/s rear trims were identical - as the rear trims seem not to be so prone to this same problem of dents from the seat buckle hitting it . Do any fellow members know the answer to this question please? And/or know where I might source this piece of trim.

Having just had the exterior refurbished to a high standard - new paint and professionally refurbished Cremona 20" alloys I am trying to bring the interior of my Jaguar up to the same standard, which it is apart from this one piece of trim.

Eurojag is probably your best shot for a good used part. A call might turn up what you need.

The trouble with used parts is that is just what they are...used. Some will have faults, others will be acceptable. Something usually turns up eventually.

ACF Howell are good at supplying chrome trim. They found / made for me waist and gutter trims for my Mk IX (coz I think they've got somthing there to copy from) And gutter trim for my Owen Sedanca.

As you've got the trim off, why not send it up to them to see if they can produce something for you? Not the cheapest solution, but had it not been for my last paint shop's recommendation to use a local chromer, I would've put all my last re-chrome work with them too

Unfortunately the piece of trim is internal - part of the door card - and is an alloy with 'patterned' matt aluminium look finish - meant possibly to resemble a 'turned' alloy finish - so this is not an issue of re-chroming. This type of trim is also used for the fascia and gear selector surround as well as the interior door trim. The x358 XJR currently featured for sale in the classifieds section has this trim. It was an option instead of the usual wood interior trim.

Sadly, as I have found in my search, this trim is no longer available from Jaguar and in any case it was priced at around (a rather exorbitant) £1300 for a set of four metal alloy door inserts [Jaguar only supplied sets]. Hence my hunt for a used one that does not have the dents and scratches from the seat belt buckles that they seem to be prone too.

Wheeler Dealers presenter Mike Brewer showed how he'd found a metal refinisher with all the polishing wheels, correct polishes -- and what's more important the skill set -- to bring existing metals in need of TLC like yours back to OEM look. That chap's skill as shown was impressive!

Unfortunately, whenever I've searched the series production company's website, none of the contractors used in programmes are listed. And only some on the end credits -- if you can catch them while some journalism student on work experience prattles on over them.

Perhaps a Gargle search for metal refinishers could throw up someone doing this?
ACF Howell do other metal jobs as well as chroming. Worth a call? They might know someone if they can't do it themselves...

The chrome shop I used in Liphook (coz they were local to the paintshop I was using too) showed me how they take deep pitting out of classic car parts prior to re-chrome. They might do metal re-finishing too. Dunno, never asked them: Silvabronz
