I have a 2004 XJ8 sport with a squeaking seat. It seems to be the back of the seat that creaks and squeaks as I drive along. It does not seem to happen when my wife drives but she is much lighter. There is also a small amount of disintegrating foam on the carpet OSR rear of the seat. Is it easy to "tighten" up the seat back to stop it? Any advice or fixes very welcome.

Hi Phil,

Have you eliminated contact between your seat and other bits of the cabin. I experienced a similar problem with the XK8 I had. Being tall I set the seat low where the seat squab would rub against the handbrake fitting and squeak. Raising the sear to give clearance would quieten everything down. The seat never squeaked when my wife drove the car as her seat setting was high....

I have tried it on my wife's setting and it still squeaks with me in it so it may be a weight related issue??

No mice in my seat but wait until the lumbar support farts and goes flat on you!

I need to get the back off my seat again and try putting some cable ties around the pipes that run to the hospital urology derived blader sack that is the lumber support unit! Either that or the sack has a hole in it!! I really do need to fix this.

Car more comfortable now that I`ve packed up the rear of the drivers seat runners using four nuts and extra long HT machine screws. These seats do decay with use. I can only sumise that my seat had a big fella on it for quite a while.

Some time ago the seat on my old XJ8 developed a problem; something had parted company on the frame. I looked into getting a replacement, heard what the cost would be (about the same as the car's value), and got the local dealer to weld it up again. Complete cure for a sensible charge.

hard to diagnose without the car here, but expect the unexpected!!

I have has an annoying rattle on my 358 for three years, from the rear left, so as the driver I was far away from it and learnt to live with it

however after a night out I was driven home in the back of the car, even through the beery haze, this rattle drove me up the wall

the next day I as again driven around I the back of the car, this time lying on the floor trying to locate the source, BINGO, left hand door trim by the speaker, easy fix, door car off, check speaker fixings, I expected to find and errant trim clip, but NOPE, £3.03p in loose change, result , profit on a job for once, but how it got there will ever be a mystery

I thought you told me that you were getting an annoying whining noise coming from the passenger seat every time you drove the car....!?!
