X350 Glove Box sticking release mechanism

Postby merlinengine633 » Wed Aug 23, 2017 3:25 pm

Hi does anyone know how to remove the glovebox opening mechanism? I understand Its a solenoid plunger which which shoots forward on a tapered plastic slider and activates the opening of the lid. Mine keeps sticking so really needs the slide mechanism lightly oiling or completely replacing. looking at them on ebay the whole assembly is available and seems to be mounted on a long plastic bar ready to be screwed to the underside of the dash. Can anyone help please.

cheers

Glovebox mechanism is accessed by removing the upper trim and air vent. There are 6 screws (4 on some models) that hold the plastic strip. They are quite tricky to access. It is then possible to carefully remove the whole assembly and unplug the connector.

My glovebox wouldn't shut. Spent a bit of time pressing the release button and reshutting the door and it eventually locked again. Working fine now. No idea what caused it. New battery already installed etc. Richard
