Bonnet Release

Has anyone had to replace the bonnet release cable? After a couple of instances of the end of the cable slipping its attachment to the bonnet release lever on my 2003 model it now looks as though the cable has snapped.

First job is to get the bonnet open, of course. I’ve carefully prised the radiator grille inserts out but access to the nearside (on a RHD car) latch mechanism seems to be blocked by some sort of casing. Any hints and tips gratefully received!
