Front door handles and locks

Postby jagshield » Thu May 13, 2021 7:38 pm

I wonder if anyone could offer an opinion on the following issue regarding my X-350 driver's side interior door handle and lock. Apologies for the length of the message, but I need to include as much info as possible.
I took the car to my regular Jaguar dealer for a service. I received a phone call saying that the car wouldn't be ready that day as the cleaners had locked themselves into the car and damage was caused getting out. I was assured the car would be fixed and ready the following day.
On said day, the story had changed and it turns out that the interior door handle has 'wear and tear' on the mechanism, resulting in the driver being unable to open the car door from the inside. A common problem, the dealer assured me, but I'd never heard of it.
My first query - have you heard of this problem?
And then the dealer asks 'do I want my car back now (with an inoperative door lock) or do I want them to fix it where I have to pay for the interior handle and the part is on back order at the factory for two weeks?'
I know that handle and lock worked faultlessly before I took the car in. Everyone says you should insist they fix it at their cost. I know, but they have my car and can hide it away quite happily unless the customer pays. So I agree to pay for the part and wait for it to be delivered.
Three weeks go by and no phone call. I enquire and there is now no date for a factory delivery. I get the part number and it is out of stock at Barratts and Manners as well. Another supplier has the item, brand new, so I buy it and take it to the dealership.
Finally - 26 days after I took it in for a service - I get my car back. I insist on taking home the faulty part as well. Driving home is no problem and, once home, I can't get the driver's door open via the interior handle.
Worse still, the passenger front door also won't open from the inside. But both the rear doors will. Pressing the door release in the middle of the dash gets me out of the car.
My second query - is there some car or key reset function that is preventing the lock operating properly?
I have examined the 'faulty' door handle but I can't see any obvious wear or tear on it. Needless to say, I am reluctant to use that dealership again.
Any thoughts or help would be highly appreciated.
