Hissing Sid

Hi
Maybe I've never noticed it before, or maybe it's just started, but when I park up there's an audible hiss from the front as the car settles. Is that normal or an indication of impending cost??
Many thanks
David

It isn`t normal.
What mileage has been covered?
Take a look at my recent air suspension posts for the X350, particularly with regard to air compressor rebuild.
My compressor piston ring had all but worn out at 87k miles. The car had a tendency to drop at the front when left overnight. "Bagpiping Andy`s" kit from ebay restored normality. If you do rebuild the compressor, also get a media dryer kit from 4x4airseals. The media gets sopping wet after years of service. All is explained in my posts.
Come back to us if you need further help.

At the risk of contradicting Mike's extensive knowledge, I'd suggest it's not unusual to hear minor hisses as the cars settle particularly if the car has had any weight transference immediately upon parking and the ignition then turned off. This is because the car tries and levels all 4 corners. It normally does this by levelling up, but of course it can't do that with the ignition off. So it then levels down to the lowest corner. This is why a car with one leaking corner can level itself down on all 4 corners overnight. Leveling down is achieved with a release of air so it might sound like a small hiss.
Obviously keep an eye but if the car runs well and the compressor isn't clearly having to work overtime to maintain ride height, then it may be that you have nothing to worry about.
Good luck
Paul
