Ride height too high

Postby jaguar32 » Sun Sep 08, 2024 8:25 pm

Hi All, Its not often I'm stumped with my 350 XJR but I'm at a loss currently and could do with some help. A couple of days ago I got in the car and the journey to drop my son off to work felt like I was fully connected to the road and feeling every bump in the tarmac. I had this once before 3-4 yrs ago and had to have the compressor replaced due to water ingress. I've now got the same issue again but in addition to this my EPB is throwing up warnings "cannot apply park break". Since this happened I have done the following:
1) Carried out the reset of the EPB but this has not worked
2) Disconnected the negative terminal and held it against the positive (vehicle not on) to clear the memory but still the same
3) Disconnected the battery for 24 hrs, reconnected but no difference in EPB or ride height (just to make you aware currently the rear wheels are approx. 1 inch away from the wheel arch at the rear passenger door on both sides of the car)
4) Carried out another EPB reset procedure, starting the car, manually holding the EPB button for 15 seconds whereby the indicators should start to flash (not on my car as probably too old 2007)

I don't have my OBD currently as son let it to someone and its not been returned so have order a new one, but while I'm waiting for this to arrive I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts on what could of gone wrong or suggestions on possible fixes to try

Ride height sensors - as a wild guess

I'd go with Tony's suggestion - rear ride height sensors, but as it's both sides at once, it could be a wiring issue. The simultaneous EPB problem, which should be totally unrelated, makes me suspect the wiring around the rear subframe. There's a known problem with abrasion of the EPB wires at a grommet hole somewhere there, so perhaps something's happened to affect both the EPB wires and the ride height sensor wiring.

An ODB reader might show plausibility errors or signal out of range (shorted to earth or 12V for the circuits concerned.

Thanks for the reply thus far. I'll look into the sensors and see if that makes a difference.

The EPB, I agree is totally unrelated to the ride height but just occurred at the same time. As suggested I'll take a look at the wiring around the subframe and let you know what I find in the next few days
