V6 petrol smell on cold start-up in cabin

Postby Norbertflyer » Thu Apr 04, 2019 12:10 pm

I get a fuel smell through the air vents on a cold start-up. It's a bi fuel 2003 model with 121k miles and the smell only occurs on cold start up for a few seconds (car is petrol running for the first minute, until it swaps to LPG). At no other times do I get the fuel smell.
Switching the air circulation fan off at cold start-up prevents the fuel smell from entering the passenger area.
The inlet manifold gaskets were recently changed, but the fuel smell has only occurred 6 months after this work.
Any thoughts on possible causes?

JerryL770, I'm definitely in the correct forum page. You may be confused.

There could be an indexing issue with the forum site perhaps, but it doesn't look out of order to me.

This thread is correctly positioned in the X350 section.

Indeed odd that Jerry is seeing it in the E-type section.

Update: found the cause of the petrol smell on start up - an incorrectly fitted hose from the manifold to the throttle body. Wedged solid, I had assumed that the pipe was properly connected and sealed, but it wasn't. Easy fix with a cable tie to properly seal the pipe to the throttle body. This fix also helped the tickover stability and 10% throttle position hesitation.
