Aircon Compressor??

Postby Mikec » Sat Oct 19, 2013 9:28 pm

Hi Guys. On my X350 I seem to have developed a wirring/whining sound which changes pitch with the engine revs and is very laudable at low revs. While the engine is running if I go to climate control on screen and switch off the aircon, the whining noise stops. Within a few seconds of switching the aircon back on the noise starts again. Is this my aircon compressor failing? Should I get it replaced before it fails? Comments / advice most welcome. Many thanks. Mike 07857058148.

Mike

has the auxiliary serpentine drive belt been changed ?

even though Jag say it should be at 100k miles, more often than not it needs doing after 60-70k ,

the extra load on the belt when the compressor clutch is engaged could be causing the belt to whine ,

and its a darn sight cheaper than a new compressor and all the work involved

other than that, yes , it would be the clutch bearing failing ,

Hi BB. Many thanks. I will get the auxillary belt checked and changed and hopefully this will fix the whining/wirring noise. Thanks once again. Mike
