heater valve

Hi everyone,I have a problem with the heating in my car as it only blows hot air on the passenger side,its not the dual climate button as this seems to be working. the car is a 2004 xj6 and I belive its the same engine as the 3.0 litre s type which I've been told suffers a similar problem with the water heater valve,would it be the same valve on my car? Any suggestions or help please as its starting to get a bit nippy here on the west coast of scotland. Many thanks Gary

This valve can be a problem with all models of S-type.

I`m unsure if the 350 has the same valve but it would seem likely.

The problem is that the twin electric valve is prone to seizure after a period of use. I`ve had one go at 44k miles. The unit is a motorised valve which obviously has magnets as part of the motor gear. The heat of the coolant can destroy magnetic properties and this is a significant contributory factor which affects motor valve life.

I`d suggest your best prices for a replacement unit would be from Neville Anderson at North East Jaguar Spares. Tell him you are a JEC member. Have your car Vin Number to hand as there are several different versions of the valve.

The symptoms you describe certainly point towards valve failure. I`ve seen this many times on S-types. Indeed I believe I have yet another valve gone on J44. My heater is producing full hot in the cabin so on occasions I have to switch off the heater completely or open the sunroof or windows to let the fug out!

Thanks Mike for your speedy reply,I'll give Neville a call tomorrow I've dealt with him before [top man],I'll post the outcome as I have also been told that the valve is a bit of a bugger to fit .Cheers for now Gary

Just to confirm it is a common fault on the 350 as well as the S type, so follow Mike's advaice
