Replacement wheel nuts?

I have always been slightly unsure why there is a slightly loose fitting cover over the X350 wheel nuts. When I first noticed it I panicked and thought I had loose nuts (stop sniggering at the back...).
Does anyone know the spec of the wheel nuts in order to get some more standard (i.e. one piece) wheel nuts?
Perhaps another car has similar dimensions (length, pitch etc).
Does anyone know any or can suggest any options, please?
Thanks,
David

There are plenty on ebay, David. New and second hand. I paid £12.50 for an unmarked but used set of four, the week before last. New, they are only a fiver a piece.
Examine your own set and note if a large washer is fitted below the cap. The thread minor diameter measured with a Vernier is 10.56 inside the nut. Although you use a 19mm socket, if you prise off the chrome outer case, beneath it is an 18mm hex nut. Useful to know if the case gets wrecked and somehow you have to get the nut off.
Go to ebay and look at s-type, X350 and XF wheel nuts. Make sure what you are looking at is identical to the nuts used on your car. You should have no difficulty finding replacement items. Alternatively just type "Jaguar X350 wheel nuts" into your browser and peruse page listings and sites.

I'm getting some new 19 inch Sabres this week (happy 50th birthday to me). They replace some aftermarket alloys fitted by the previous owner. Not only do these old wheels have only 4 lug nuts on them instead of 5 (yes really) they are manky steel things best hidden by a centre cap.
So can anyone tell me what the standard lug nut would be for these so I can order some nice chrome ones ready? Tapered seat, flat and washer etc?

You should remove one nut as an example and examine. Note washer and length of nut details. Pretty universal across S-type, X350 and XF models as they all share identical wheel hubs and suspension components. Spec as detailed in my post above.
Here is a selection currently on ebay.

Always replace nuts when they show the slightest signs of shoulder wear. Only use a good quality 19mm socket. The standard tool kit removal tool wrecks wheel nut shoulders due to being poor quality and being a very loose fit...donate to the Council waste bin! NEVER allow anyone to use a hammer gun to remove or replace wheel nuts. That is guaranteed to flatten the outer chrome case and cause slippage of even the tightest fitting quality 19mm socket. Use hand tools only with these nuts.
I hold three or four spare nuts in my spares stock. It is not unusual to have to replace a couple of nuts annually due to wear or flattening issues.
Hope that helps.

I don't have an original nut to compare, the ones on the aftermarket wheels are plain uncapped steel rubbish, however the Sabres have now arrived and I see they are flat seated (about 30mm dia). I'm assuming these will do the job?

Surprisingly little thickness to the seat flange on these Sabres!

They look the same as mine and the advert says OE fit. Suck and see. You can always return them if incorrect.
