new xj alloys to x350
Re: new xj alloys to x350
Hi Martin,
the best bet is to email David Marks and XJK engineering with a copy to Nigel Thorley for the query to maybe being used in the magazine. All the emails are in the magazine.
Are the wheels cheap? I would have thought they almost cost more than you would have paid for the car! Keep us updated here of your progress please .

Re: new xj alloys to x350
Martin,
You must consider what sort of ride you want in this new car.
If you want a sporty ride then big diameter wheels - 19" or even 20" , you'll feel every crack in the road and every bit of grit, and you'll be dodging potholes, and believe me it can all get tedious!
On the other hand, for a magic carpet smooth ride, go for 17" wheels and 55 section tyres. I speak from experience! My 2003 XJ6 V6 has Nexen 6000 55 section tyres which cost less than £100 each fitted, and the set up is good; but then I like it smooth. I can't tell you about the roadholding because I don't throw the car about, and I don't drive fast but I would buy again.
Best,
PW

Re: new xj alloys to x350
I agree entirely about ride quality. After a 200 mile trek up and down the M6 last weekend in three lanes of turgid traffic I am beginning to question the need for performance above what my diesel provides. Ride comfort is top of my list though I am too mean to swap for larger tyres and smaller wheels. The 19 inch wheels on my car look really good though! It depends really on whether you are more worried about ride comfort or what may impress others..ie big shiny wheels. Maybe on a hot hatch but not for me on an XJ. You would have thought by now that tyre manufacturers could provide a good ride and cornering ability ?
