I had to re-line the separate EPB calipers just over a year ago following the MOT man insisting that pads were low and needed replacement. They are only 5.5mm thick when new! Caliper pins were a nightmare to extract and I ended up at Jagcare in Portsmouth for some help. I assisted with the job which was a bit of a pain to say the least.
My battery was ailing which didn`t help. The system faulted as Simon and I predicted when we operated the brake at the end of the job. Finally a battery dis-connect and hard dump sorted matters out. In theory, a simple enough job but in practice it was a total faff.
I have an article in build at present covering Brembo R version pad and disc changes for X350, XKR, XFR 4.2 and STR models. This has to include stripping out the third EPB caliper to facilitate rear disc removal. During my research for the article, I came across this Topix extract which covers recommissioning of the EPB system following strip out and re-line. It is a most useful addition to the knowledge pool. Those with EPB equipped cars should perhaps bookmark this thread and the extract posted below.
For those who want to change the rear pads Jaguar recommend that the EPB (hand brake) is calibrated as detailed below.
This is taken from Topix and is an update that applies to ALL XF's and supersedes TSB JTB00208/2010 dated 31 August 2010
Cars Covered
S-TYPE VIN Range: M45255-N91220
XF VIN Range: R00001 Onwards
XK Range VIN Range: B00001 Onwards
XJ Range VIN Range: G00001-H30057
XJ Range VIN Range: V00001 Onwards
After completing any mechanical service work on the Park brake actuator, Park brake cables or rear brake calipers
through which the Park brake operates (including brake pad replacement), the Park brake must be re-calibrated to the
procedure in this bulletin. Failure to do this may result in incorrect operation of the Park brake, with warning lamps
illuminating and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) C1801-00 or C1802-00 being stored.
1. Reset the EPB module as detailed below
a. Switch off the ignition.
b. Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds (see TOPIx
Workshop Manual, section 414-01).
c. Re-connect the battery.
2. Start the engine.
3. Firmly apply and release the footbrake five times.
4. Confirm that the message 'NOT CALIBRATED' or 'APPLY FOOT
AND PARK BRAKE' is displayed on the instrument cluster
message center. This indicates that the parking brake is in
calibration mode.
5. Lightly press the footbrake pedal.
6. Apply the parking brake by using the EPB switch.
7. Release the parking brake.
8. Release the footbrake.
9. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the
instrument pack and that the 'NOT CALIBRATED' message is no
longer displayed in the message center.
10. Apply and release the EPB five times to ensure no error is present
I`ll expand this thread shortly with images when I get around to fitting all new pads and discs.

Re: Modern Jags.EPB re-setting procedure from Topix site
A little more on the subject of the EPB unit fitted to many Jaguar models from MY2002.5>.
The early cars were often IDS diagnosic based until a break period which occurred in 2005 or 2006. The system then became SDD based. That is quite important from an interrogation and diagnostic stand point.
You will probably agree that the Topix extract about the EPB re-setting procedure is quite useful. However we have also seen the appearance of small dedicated electronic service tools making an appearance on the market. Prime examples known to many of us now are the iCarsoft 930i diagnostic tool and the Torque app for Android and Iphones which can be used with an ELM327 bluetooth chip. However, and I`m happy to be corrected on this, neither device has the facility to set the EPB unit into Service Mode so the Topix method offers some help towards dealing with the issue. Obviously, the more you pay for your diagnostic tool, the more facilities you are likely to have at your finger tips. Typically, these cheaper devices do not have the Service Mode or Air Suspension adjustment program inbuilt into their software package.
I`ve known that additional small stand alone units for easy setting of EPB units have been around for some years. Prices are often in the £200 category which for most of us using such tools only infrequently, makes justification of that sort of expenditure, hard to justify. However, it does not stop some of us trying to find more affordable tools and options.
I recently sent PTJS1 a link to a site which was selling an advanced form of OBD software. Paul is looking at the equipment and of perhaps buying a package. He will no doubt be telling me his considered views on the package possibilities. In the meantime, here is the link I sent him.https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... 4OpSBCVTfA
Also of interest to a number of us may be this dedicated JLR EPB service tool for just £56 delivered. It appears to support Jaguar.Land Rover vehicles from 2006> and appears to be SDD based only. That is something of a disappointment for me personally as my XJR is IDS based. I shall be phoning the Cheltenham based distributor tomorrow for a discussion, but in the meantime, this link might be of interest.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-Land-R ... 4d55791019
Of additional interest is a unit made by Autel. This unit appears to cater for EPB equipped cars but also has some of the known diagnostic software which is becoming well known by us here. I noted that the unit appeared to show a Torque type app on its navigation screen! here is the link to that unit.https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... oZT-TtLj7A
I have a feeling this thread may develop in a most interesting manner.
