Electrics Gremlin

Postby Mikec » Mon Jul 25, 2011 11:28 pm

Hi. In the last week or so my x350 alarm has gone off for no reason and yesterday at 70mph on the motorway I seemed to lose electrics momentarily, and all the dashboard dials dropped to zero - including the speedo even though i was travelling at 70. Power steering seemed ok but no indicators, but hazard lights worked fine. Really strange.
I moved over to the hard shoulder on hazard lights and switched ignition off. Then turned the ignition on and all was fine - started ok, dials ok, and ran fine so drove home. Battery tested at Kwik fit today and fine. Could these electric gremlins be linked? Anyone had similar issues with this XJ8 model? It is new to me as I have had an X308 before. This is my first x350. Great car apart from these niggles. Regards. Mike

You have checked the obvious things so maybe write to David Marks via the JEC magazine unless anyone has any other ideas?

Last place I would trust is KrapFit for checking my battery.
When mine was replaced under warranty it had to go to a dealer and be left overnight (after the cars systems had shut down) in order for them to be able to go through a predetermined routine set by Jaguar to test the battery.
Might also be worth checking the common faults like corroded earth points near the headlights, etc

Many thanks for your responses and advice. The alarm was actually bonnet catches and microswitches. I will check the earth connections behind the headlamps. Many thanks. Mike
