2003 XJ6 - How to put bluetooth on this car?

Postby leopoldo651 » Sat Nov 07, 2020 11:38 am

Hi everyone

I just got a XJ6 (2003) and was wondering if it is possible to put bluetooth in it somehow. I saw on the internet it could be possible connectinga bluetooth device to the ipod 30 pin connection, but I don't know if this car has one.

Can anyone recommend a bluetooth solution that works for this car? (excluding FM transmitters)

Thanks in avdance

Leo,

It depends what you're trying to achieve. If you're looking for full phone integration etc, you can install the original Jaguar BTUM module. There used to be a ready 2nd hand market for these units and plenty of Forum info on the net about fitting one.

Alternatively you can go down the Parrot route which gives good functionality.

Or if its literally just music etc and very basic phone, the FM transmitter route is so cheap and works fine for what it is. It will also give you a USB charge point.

Good luck

Hi there

I am just trying to find out what are all the options available. I don't really need satnav as I use my phone for that.

I would be ideally looking for a solution that covers playing music from my phone and if possible using the phone to talk also.

Do you know i my card model has this ipod 30 pin connector?

Leo,

My 2004 sovereign didn't have an ipod connector so I doubt yours has.

Jaguar also made an optional connector that sat in the glove box and enabled iphone and audio jack connectivity. It was about £100 and has been NLA from Jaguar for many years AFAIK.

As the FM transmitters with additional USB port are so cheap, £3, I'd try one of those first and see if that's all you need Then you've got phone and music. The one thing you might want to do is use a cigarette lighter extension lead to plug it in as the microphones on the devices can get distorted when they are so low down in the centre console.

Good luck

Thanks Paul.

I ordered an FM transmitter already, but am concerned also about it being so low and people might hear me well, etc. Also, it sometimes fail a bit, gets interference, etc.

Is it possible to change the entire audio/satnav system for a newer one? How much do they cost?

One other question

Given my XJ6 is a 2003 model

Is it considered a X350 or a X308?

Hi Leo - the X308 was the previous steel-bodied model. The X350 was an entirely new design with an aluminium body although it did initially share the same engine. Yours, as a 2003 car is one of the early ones.
Congratulations, in my view you have one if the best cars Jaguar ever made! I had a 2006 TDVi as my daily driver for a while and in a long list of other Jaguars, SAABs, BMWs, Volvos and Audis the X350 was the best of the lot! Enjoy!
