Boot ( trunk ) access

Postby trampintransit » Fri Sep 06, 2019 8:06 am

Well, I think I've shot myself in the foot. I bought a very cheap 350 but I think it's a dud..there's too many suspicious things? But the latest problem is precipitated by me. The car came with one key and a fob that doesn't work... I was gonna deal with that later ....meantime, I left the key in the car last night in the ignition...cam out this morning..battery dead....no big deal ...but...the boot won't open..and the key turns freely but doesn't open it either. I think the boot might be from a different car now I look closely. So ...how do I get into the boot ?

If I put 12v on the cigar lighter socket with the ignition on ( there's a TINY bit of charge ) will that open the cigar lighter socket to the main bus and put 12v in the the system ...enough to trigger the boot lock ?

what other options are there?

Instead of the cigarette lighter, use the terminal post under the bonnet on the bulkhead. From memory, I'm sure the x350 has them there as per previous Jaguars.

If there is a +ve terminal post in the engine bay, regret to say I`ve never found it. Opening the engine bay fuse box, there are loads of +ve points. One of them must link to the battery in the boot.

Sorry I can`t be more helpful presently. Rather delicate after having back surgery at Guys.

Idiots like me providing distraction from back pain? You're welcome !! :D

Seriously though, hope you improve quickly...

Well, every day's a school day....
I did go looking for a positive terminal in the engine bay, there must be one somewhere but it eluded me...so.....

Cut and shut the earth lead on my battery charger to make it about two metres long, earthed to engine mount in bonnet... massive extension lead out to the street.....battery charger in the drivers footwell.....remove fusebox cover by accelerator above which is a bloody great big positive stud....the second I switched on the charger the system came alive, all the locks popped and I gt the boot open. Battery now in house charging ....phew....
Getting second key cut and fob programmed suddenly moved up list of priorities for this week.

Bang! Poof!! End of another problem...call fire brigade!

Thanks for the laugh. Back at St Thomas`s this afternoon. More Southern Rail. Feeling a bit better by the hour.

All the best.
