Updating the Sat Nav information

Postby Tcollis » Tue Mar 05, 2019 2:42 pm

Good afternoon,

My lovely 2003 XJS has a Sat Nav which must have been an optional extra on purchase. Anyway I have noticed that it's frequently out date to the roads - it may even still be on the original information, which will be 16 years old.

So I need to update the information and from what I can see it looks like I need to replace the disc (DVD) for the latest one which looks to be 2012 for around £30. Does anyone know where the discs/DVD for the SatNav is located?

Sorry if that seems a silly question.

Thank you very much,

Tim.

Be aware that there are many copies of DVD at around the £30 mark which are not genuine Jaguar issue. They do work but may give problems in the longer term. This is because the cheap copies are usually 'burnt' on a computer drive rather than pressed, as are the official copies. The burnt copies may give the laser some problems with reading the microscopic pits that are the data pattern; this causes either slow response (due to re-tries to read the data error free) or, cause the laser to increase its power to get more reliable data which can result in premature laser burnout. I fitted one of these cheap discs to my 2.7 TDVi which worked OK, but when I sold the car to a dealer saying it had the latest disc fitted, he complained that copies were not a good idea and could land him with a warranty claim on the next sale for the reasons above. The choice is yours.

The DVD player for the sat nav is in the left hand side of the boot above the audio CD changer (if this option is fitted). Eject the old disc and load the newer one and switch on the ignition and select the Nav function. I think from memory you have to select 'update software' or similar from one of the option pages. The boot up process take several minutes and you will find that, once loaded, the new version automatically centres the car in Belgium by default. You have to change the country to the UK before it will give a true position from the GPS satellite.

Thanks Brian, that's really helpful. Presumably the genuine Jag DVD costs a lot more than £30.

Regards,

Tim.
