denso sat nav quiery

HI,
I have a sat nav disc (2007 - 2008)
I am looking to update to the newest version.
My disc say 1x43 10E898-AK.
All the discs I see for sell have the same numbers apart from the last 2 letters, some are AM, or AP, AE etc, will these work on my sat nav or must I have the AK version??
I hope someone can advise me.

Pete,

The last 2 letters refer to the year. AL is newer than AK etc.

The latest and FINAL disc is the 2011/ 2012 disc no new ones to be made!

I think AP is the 11-12 version. I didn't know they stopped then.

I bought the latest one available for my 2004 SType and it works fine. Don't forget to calibrate your system after fitting. It's also worth doing a calibration check every 12 months or so to keep things accurate. The calibration method is in the Satnav section of the handbook.

I bought a cheap 'upgrade' 2012 disc for my previous XJ6 TDVi and it apparently worked just fine. However, as I later learned, (and has been discussed ad nauseam on other forums), just be aware that you may get what you pay for in shorter SatNav disc player life.

Although the upgrade disc will obvioulsy have the latest maps on it, it will be made by 'burning' a copy on a PC: original Jaguar disks are pressed the same way as commercial DVDs, films, etc. So what, you may say? The potential problem is that a 'burnt' disc may have data tracks which are more difficult to read without errors. This can cause the reader to perform many retries on some tracks - resulting in slow, or erratic performance - and also to increase its laser power to try and read the data with fewer errors. This can lead to premature laser burnout in the player, which then effectively makes the whole player scrap.

Not had any of the above mentioned problems using a "Burnt " backup discs over many years. I have also copied cds in my ownership so that the originals can be kept at home. It may only be a theoretical problem I believe ,unless someone can provide evidence to the contrary. However I would always use top quality discs to copy onto.The biggest problem I think is the actual dvd/ cd drive mechanism which fails even on more expensive hifi type players. This is without being fitted to vehicles which get very hot ,cold and damp sometimes in the same day in the uk. The drive mechanism consists of bits of plastic and tiny springs etc. No devices of this sort last forever, if only they could be made of stainless steel or brass!

I take on board what you both say. However if I use the Satnav four times a year that's it. So hopefully it will be OK.
