I've got to replacing the intercooler pump
ordered the AVT unit
What did you remove to get to the pump?
I have the front bumper off, all the plastic undertray bits
I'm having trouble getting to the electrical connector.
Any tips?

Did you cut the wire to the old pump and solder on the new Bosch connector to this?
I'm thinking that maybe this is the best solution.

Off with the front bumper cover to begin with. That can be a two hour job if fixings are corroded solid. Have some fresh fixings to hand before you begin.
I siameesed both the old Hella plug and the new Bosch plug wires together as two flying tails. That way, I could always quickly fit either type of pump. I recall I used male and female crimp connectors and used shrink wrap to water proof the connections. Any subsequent mods etc then only required the shrink to be cut off to free up the connectors.

Out of interest I tested both pumps, the old Hella one ( which is not sounding too healthy) and the new Bosch one running off a battery with the suction dipped into a bucket of water.
The flow from the original Hella pump was noticeably greater than the 'high flow' Bosch unit from AVT.
No doubt about it. So I don't think the Bosch unit is higher flow at all.

Do you have the right pump, Chris.
My car showed a marked improvement with the new pump fitted. No doubt about that. Perhaps my old pump was not functioning too well......
Why not give AVT a call and discuss the issue?

Hi All,
I have recently decided to replace the coolant hoses on my 2006 STR. While I had the hoses off I decided to take advantage of the improved access to do some other jobs, one of which was to upgrading the supercharger auxiliary coolant pump.
I bought a 'Bosch Water Pump 0392022002 PPA-GF-33' which seems to be available for around £100 now off eBay, and a Bosch AVT Tuglock connector for £4.30 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-2-Pin- ... xyhSBR~7rG. I was a bit alarmed at the previous post which stated that the Bosch pump flowed was less than the OE Hella pump. So I decided to test them before fitting.
I filled a very large bucket of water, raised the bucket about a foot above the pump, connected old coolant hoses to the pump inlet and outlet, primed the pump inlet hose with water and connected the pump terminals to a fully charged car battery. I timed how long it took for each pump to shift around 9l of water. With this method I can confirm that, although the Hella pump performed surprisingly well, the Bosch pump had 10% higher flow than the Hella. Furthermore, as the pump body looks slightly larger, I suspect the Bosch pump will generate slightly higher pressure also.
Regarding the pump loom, I cut the connector off the old Hella pump and made up a short cable to connect the connector to the AVT Tuglock connector. I used a short length of 2 core mains flex with adhesive lined heat shrink to insulate the joints and to shroud the whole join length. The wire colour codes stated in the workshop manual were not correct for my car. The positive wire was coloured Black/Red and the negative was Black/Yellow (might have been Black/White + dirt;-). I managed to fit the rubber mount onto the pump 'motor end' without too much bother, but I haven't decided what I will do with the 'pump end' rubber mount. I will probably re-use it and maybe try to cable tie it in place. I don't think it will be a problem as the original pump just sat loosely on this mount anyway.
Additionally, when I disconnected the hose from the original Hella pump to the supercharger intercooler, I discovered that the hose was in a terrible state (no doubt due to being sprayed with hot oil from a leak I have in this area...either the O/S oil cooler or the steering oil cooler). Unfortunately this hose is discontinued by Jaguar. However, it is more or less just a short 90degree bend, so I bought a Gates 22mm ID 90deg hose for £6, which I can cut down to length. The intercooler stub measure 22.5mm OD, but the Bosch pump outlet measures 19mm, so I might use a 19 to 22mm silicone hose from eBay instead, or use the Gates hose with two clamps on each stub. I haven't decided yet.

I cable tied the Bosch pump to the mounting bracket rather than struggle with the clamp fixing. As that did the job to my satisfaction, I left it at that. Two years or so on, there have not been any issues.
Jaguar certainly cram cooling pack and many other components tightly into a car. STR, XFR, XKR and XJR models suffer in this respect. Great when new but when aged a complete brain ache at component part replacement time. Certainly at the front end, little thought was given to future maintenance. That generally now appears how car makers now operate. The attitude would be that once the car is over three years old, any maintenance/replacement issues become very much the owner and maintainers headache. That is rather different to the aircraft industry where maintenance ease is the norm rather than the exception. Sophisticated a car may be but making them to be user friendly, they are not. I`d not now be a vehicle maintainer for all the tea in China. Imagine dealing with these issues day after day, the stress under time pressure, difficulties with dismantling, cuts and scrapes, inaccessibility and the nause of having to do the whole job again if you have missed any defect. Nightmare!.....

It might be that your Hella pump was knackered and that was why the Bosch unit had an increased flowrate.
I can tell you without a doubt that when I tested the two pumps the original hella unit produced a greater flowrate.
I still replaced it as the Hella unit was making a horrible noise, which is why I started the job in the first place and I'd paid for the new Bosch unit.
If you do a bit more research (which is what I should have done before I purchased the 002 unit!) on other Jag and MBenz AMG forums you will find that the pump to use as the replacement is the Bosch 0 392 022 010 NOT the Bosch 0 392 022 002 as sold by ATV.
The 0 392 022 010 is a similar or cheaper price and its performance characteristics are superior to the 0 392 022 002.

Indeed we live and learn. Useful to have the uprated part number. Not good that AVT have been selling the lower flow unit as an uprate.
