Aluminum that has been cracked, can open up when hot.
One item that is difficult to check is the condition of the "valley hose". This is a hose which sits in the V of the engine and is a notorious fail item. At the front end of the engine, it joints a stub pipe on the block just behind the thermostat pipe. Given age and mileage the rubber pipe develops splits just as it comes off the stub pipe. Coolant then escapes and might be seen as orange leaks around the top front of the engine. If the car is supercharged, then the charger has to be removed to access it. That is a dreadful job! See my other posts on that issue in the X350 coolant section. Here is the location of the pipe.

Really hoping it is not going to be the case with mine even though it is not supercharged.
The encouraging thing this morning is that the coolant level has not appeared to have dropped, but I will of course continue to monitor it.
