Supercharger cover

Morning Founts of All Knowledge,

My X350 SV8 has a plastic cover over the supercharger cooling chambers. It's insulated on the inside with a thin,black,padded liner.

My Daimler Super 8 does not have such a cover. I suppose it may have done in the past but all the photos I've seen show the engine without one.

So, question. Is it there to make the S/C look prettier or does it have a real purpose such as insulating the charge coolers or sound deadening? Or any other function?

Intrigued to know.

The supercharger cover serves two purposes, to tidy up the engine bay, and to provide a small amount of sound deadening. Over the years, Jaguar has both fitted them and omitted them on different models. Hence, it can't be considered a critical component unless you're going for a concours engine bay. Mike.

I can't say it makes much difference noise wise if it's on or off!
