Water pump replacement?

Postby ianoliver57 » Mon Apr 29, 2024 10:46 am

2009 XJ8, 4.2 V8 X358. It has been suggested that the water pump, and perhaps the thermostat housing, should be replaced when the auxiliary belts are replaced. At 15 years old and 34k mileage is this reasonable? Is there generally a problem with the water pumps etc in these V8 engines? Surely they should last further than 34K miles? Car is due a major service at the end of the summer, which will include the belts.
Any thoughts!

Ian.

Hi Ian,
I have a 2005 4.2 which has gone over 100,000 miles with the original, as far as I know.

I didn't think these engines had any particular problem in this area.

If it's cost effective to have this done at the same time as the belt then it may be worth it for peace of mind.

Tony
