Diesel cam belt and other belts

Postby barrywi » Sat Apr 21, 2018 1:44 am

Just had the cam belt changed on my 39000 mile 2.7 diesel. Not really due on mileage but as it is a 2007 car done as a precaution. I had an mot, major service , new coolant and new brake fluid changed at the same time at my Jaguar main dealer. My car only does about 1000 miles a year so the £1600 cost averaged over the last four years with no annual service plus the next service in a couple of years is not too bad. Obviously if I do a few local trips I give it a longer fast trip now and again to clean out the dpfs. The only fault I have had on the car over the eight years of my ownership was the split port activation thing( sorry non technical!) which switched me into limp home mode coveniently on my way to the previous service. A simple cheap fix at the garage plus a procedure to clear out the blocked dpf caused by the fault got me back up to speed.
The JLR garage loaned me a 2.5T XE as a courtesy car but was glad to get back to the XJ. Much quieter, better ride ,maybe not as fast but feels so much more substantial.
Question about the cam belt ,as they only fitted two belts, one at the front and one at the back of the engine I presume the front cam belt must power the air con, power steering and alternator as well? I think the back belt is just for the fuel pump but could be wrong.

The back belt is for the fuel pump, Barry.

The cam belt drives the cam shafts. I`d suggest all the other services are driven by a further forward auxiliary belt which is pretty standard and normal practice.

You can`t have enough drive belts!
