2006 V6 a good engine?

Hello, Although I'm a new member to the JEC I have asked more experienced members vital advise to which I have received a lot of valuable information, to which I thank you all!!
I think I have found my first Jaguar... It is a 2006 Sovereign with a 3.0ltr V6 petrol engine that has done 43,000 miles. It has a full service history and is in VERY good condition.
I am assuming that the V6 is a good engine. No, it's not a 4.2ltr V8, but is there anything horrific I should know? I hope not as decent cars like this aren't exactly commonplace.

It's about as durable as engines get; the only thing to watch for apparently is a noisy crankshaft damper which can cause a lot of damage if it fails, but it probably won't.
All it needs is regular servicing, I sold my 164,000 mile X350 XJ6 years ago (it's still going strong). Probably the best and most reliable saloon car ever made, certainly one of the least expensive to run.

Hi Phil, Many thanks for your speedy reply! I can breath now... I was wondering if there might be a problem, thankfully there isn't.
I have put a deposit down on the car and it will be delivered on Monday by transporter. Then I can see it for the first time!! Yes, I am mad...

Good luck with the car on Monday,hope all goes well with the delivery.
The only issue I had when buying my last car which was online (for the wife actually,well she paid for it ) was not the condition of the car,that was fine but the thing was it was driven rather than transported.
A few miles would of been ok but this was from Cheshire to Plymouth(I should of checked) .
But as it turned out the car has never been a problem(Nissan Juke ) ,it keeps her happy anyway(happy wife,happy life so they say).
I take it the car from Beechdown was not suitable,you don't have to answer that question if you had a bad experience .

Thanks for your input, and yes, it's actually being transported down for £350 from London, so I don't think it is too much.
Yes, a happy wife = a happy life. My wife is first class, she has always helped me when I was racing, originally a heavily modified 1967 429cu in Mustang, then an virtual ex works Sunbeam Lotus, marshalled in WRC rallies with me and even going with me to the New Zealand WRC, was an MSA (as was it known then) South West time keeper. It helps to have a total petrol head for a missus that loves to watch WEC on TV...What can I say...
With regards to Beechdown, everything was really good. Nigel, the owner was very patient with me. As this was the very first Jaguar I was going to buy but it had the first 4 years of it's service history "missing" there was no paperwork present. I did hesitate and someone popped in to put a deposit on it. The rest, as they say, was history. When I spoke to Nigel I could tell he was feeling awkward over the situation, but he runs a business, somebody comes in with the cash he's going to sell it. It was a cracking car though. I would say that Beechdown were very good, patient and professional with a dollop of empathy. I'd buy from them in the future.

Hi Bob If I'm not mistaken the 3 Ltr V6 is a Ford unit which is bullet proof if looked after as is the 2.5 V6 they fitted in the S Type.

That V6 engine is certainly about as tough as they get, but it's hardly a Ford unit; although it was manufactured in a dedicated section of their Bridgend plant as part of a contract with Jaguar. Ford, Mazda, and Porsche as well as Jaguar all had a hand in its development, but the ultimate was the VVT equipped 3.0 litre Jaguar version.

I try to resist tempting fate,calling something bullet proof comes under that umbrella,I bought my first V6 Mondeo in 1999,the head gasket went 18 months later & it never ran properly after that,I became aware of many V6 Mondeo owners who had suffered the same fate on this engine that everyone in the know called bullet proof,I thought long & hard about buying another,I did & 17 years down the line it is still running beautifully,maybe I shouldn't say that I could be tempting fate!

Almost everyone at some point it seems. The final examples were manufactured in a Jaguar dedicated section of the Ford Bridgend plant, Ford being a subcontractor to Jaguar.
