Wiper Parking for Wiper Blade replacement

Postby DonA » Fri May 28, 2021 9:37 pm

How do I position the wipers vertically on the windscreen of my X350, so that I could replace the wiper blades.
Thank you. Don Anthony

There is no way to position the wiper blades vertically. However you should be able to lift each blade sufficiently clear of the glass to change the blade. How difficult this is depends: If you have bought holders complete with blades, press the plastic clip and slide the complete assembly out of the loop in the end of the wiper arm - watch you don't let the spring wack the bare end of the arm on the windscreen glass.Insertion of the new blade holder is a bit fiddly to thread the arm end through the right way round the first time you do it.

If you have just bought "refill" rubbers, these have to be threaded through the several U-shaped hooks on the arm. I find its best to do this by removing the holder and working off the car, as getting the old rubbers out needs pliers to crush the old retainer clip so that the blade can be slid out. Threading the new rubber in, the trick is to do this from the correct end so that the retainer clip goes in last and is clicked home. Fit the refilled blade back as you would a ready-made complete assembly.

Thanks Brian.
I purchased Bosch Aero Twin AR608S. Struggling to fit the blade. Just cannot get the U shape hook, to register in the new blade's slot.

They should "just work" - I fitted some, and much prefer them to the original Jaguar ones with a nasty aerofoil thingy. I vaguely remember thinking fitting them was a bit like solving one of those bent wire puzzles :-)

Turn on the ignition, press the wash-wipe to ensure you have a bit of moisture to avoid damaging the blades, and just cut the ignition when the blades are in the right part of their sweep for you to change them.

Sorry, NO. That does NOT work - at least on my 2006 X350 (from memory I don't think that worked on my X308 either). They always will self-park after the ignition is turned off.

Ok Guys,

Apols for that! My x350, sold some years ago must have had a self-park fault as I can remember changing my blades in that way as it's a bit awkward to change them in the park position, as we know. I wonder if just cutting the power (fuse or battery) would defeat the self-park?

There are two slots, which slot should I use.
Slot A - Insufficient depth to fully insert U shape end of wiper arm
Slot B - The depth looks ok. But it was so difficult/tight to insert the wiper arm, that piece just snapped.
