3 doors 'full' of rain water.....

Like a few others, I reckon, mine's been mostly sat on the drive for the last six months rather than being driven. Noticed a slow drip from the rear driver's side door after a short trip, so I investigated and pulling the rubber seal a bit, led to a trickle of water for a minute or so. 2 other doors with the same issue. Never come across this phenomenon in any previous vehicle, but one to watch out for, I guess. Richard

The first case I`ve heard of with the X350> model as regards water ingress in the doors.

This does sound like a case of misplaced door seals. All I can suggest is removal of all door cards in turn and investigation to ensure they are all sealing as they should do.

Car doors are designed to "leak". You can't seal the moveable window glass entirely so the answer is to have a waterproof membrane between the 'wet' part of the door and the 'dry' part - the door card and the cabin - to keep them apart. The problem gets noticed when the drains get blocked by dirt, small leaves, etc. On the X350 there are three slits in the rubber strip at the bottom of each front door and two at the rear doors; it's worth making sure that these are clear by gently poking a small stick into each hole. Also, move the rubber strip away from the bottom of the door and, if necessary, poke a small stick up into each hole in the door. If you forget to do it you can often hear water sloshing back and forth at the bottom of the door as you apply the brakes!

Yes, I think you're spot on bout that. I've done few 'tests' since with the hose pipe and all draining away ok now.

Interestingly, it was the 3 lesser used doors.....

Hi Richard,
The day after my post I was caught out by my own advice! I got in the car after about a week since last use and when I braked for the T-junction at the bottom of the road I heard the water sloshing around in the driver's door. Ah, needs a clean out then Sure enough the front slot in the rubber was blocked with silt or mud. But it has been a tad wet lately.........

The shape of the x350 doors means they are also very susceptible to water retention and release depending on the angle that they sit. The side slope on my drive meant that my drivers door always released water when opened after rain ingress, whereas the passenger door didn't.

my rear offside door does the same quite often. got the garage to unblock it during the last service, but now i know how easy it sounds, i'll do it myself next time!

My passenger door fills up readily, I guess the best solution is just to make sure it flows out as quickly.
