Japanese reimports

Postby MarkBennett » Wed Oct 06, 2021 5:46 pm

As a long time XJS convertible owner, ancient bones dictate something rather more sedate (not that sedate). I am interested in an X358 for which there seems to be a few for sale on the JEC website. Has any one had experience of a japanese reimport? Are there any pitfalls to avoid or things to consider when purchasing one?

I believe I saw some information about Japanese imports in the magazine a while ago.

Basically, all the relevant documentation SHOULD have been dealt with by the importer. It is a bit of a minefield if you want to do that yourself.

In theory the returning cars are lower mileage and will not have had the ravages of UK roads, but as with any car , do check thoroughly. They will still be subject to age related wear and tear.

A lot of posts on JagChat about these:

The only owner I have spoken to is delighted with his Super V8 from Jagwest, but warns that some other importers do not fully convert to home market specification. You are also likely to find features considered poor taste in Britain; bonnet leapers, ̶c̶h̶a̶v̶t̶i̶n̶t̶s̶ privacy glass etc.
